2009 - click on pics to enlarge

March 15, 2009.  The winter of 2009 was cold and  snowy and the spring thaws are starting.  The Cannonball was rising steadily. We could hear the river roaring from the yard.  The river is 1 mile south of the house.  Lots of snow left to melt yet.....

The Cannonball river crested sometime over the night on March 20-21 (first day of spring coincidentally)
Kerry and I watched it until dark but did not get to see it at the highest mark.
I tried to match these two photos together to show river backing up into Oscars corn  field  March 21, 2009 Normal size of Cannonball, this photo taken the fall of 2007 looking NW Looking west towards Oscars.
These photos all taken March 21 2009.  Ice jam starts just before where old bridge was ripped out in flood of 1950 Looking west towards Oscars. Looking north towards our farm.  Looking northwest up the Cannonball.

I merged a bunch of photos so you can see from the northwest all the way around the corner and ice jam to the bridge
water is a little higher in afternoon old bridge location looking towards farm from the east Checking culverts/one is bent
The Cannonball river jam at the old bridge released the night of March 21-22 and then jammed up at the current bridge.  It appeared that the icebergs were hitting & scraping the bottom of the bridge.  All the bird nests got scraped off the walls of the pillar supports, and where the beavers were hanging out along the banks yesterday, there are now huge icebergs laying around.  We did not get to see the highest water as once again, it happened at night.
Note the bird nests under the bridge
